What are biological systems? What can we learn from
them that will shape the information, technology and industrial economies
of the fast-approaching future?
How
do human activities interact with other biological systems in the
living world? What can we do to ensure a vital and prosperous future
for ourselves, our descendents, and the life that envelops this planet?
This workshop helps learners explore the nature of biological
systems through a variety of instructional approaches. Students are
challenged to engage both rational and intuitive faculties during
indoor and outdoor learning activities. Games and simulations supplement
lecture and multimedia presentations, leading to an understanding
of such concepts as biodiversity, food webs, evolutionary "strategies,"
biological networks, homeostasis, and the evolution of cooperation.
Workshop participants will develop an appreciation for biological
systems concepts and their applications to organizational and business
life.
